How many times have you ever received a compliment on a pair of khaki pants you were wearing? I mean be honest. How many strangers have ever run up to you out of breath, with arms flailing telling you they love your khaki pants? Read the rest of this entry »
Let’s celebrate! Today is my day, but it is also my company’s day and the inspiration for Fun and Fabulous Finds. So, let’s be festive! Let’s have some fun! Let’s feel the love for the 4/25!
In honor of the day, here is one way I would spend the next 24 hours if all was in alignment in the universe:
Ah, Rio de Janeiro…one of the more magical cities I have visited. The food, the people and the culture are second to none. I could easily hang out in Rio today and stay at the Ipanema Plaza Hotel for its fabulous location to Ipanema Beach and shopping. You literally walk out of the hotel and cross the street and sit in above photo. http://www.ipanemaplaza.com.br Who wants to join me and lounge on the beach in celebration of 4/25? Sigh…
I would wear this while sunning in Rio today:
Cutest cover up ever! www.trinaturk.com
And this is what I would drink-the Caipirinha! Now listen, you haven’t lived until you have had a Caipirinha made in Brazil. I have never tasted one in the states that compares to a Brazilian Caipirinha. Never. So, because it is my birthday maybe we should have a celebratory drink there together?
Of course, I have to mix in some decor and design because that is the heart of Fun and Fabulous Finds. So, I would bring these timeless treasures back from Rio and put them in my house:
These flat weave rugs and blankets are so finely woven and divinely easy to use (and they are easy to pack!). You can also find the most wonderful hand painted tablecloths and linens. And the art…well that is just fabulous as well.
Did you enjoy my celebratory Fun and Fabulous dream journey? As my Brazilian friends would say Feliz Aniversário! My love and thanks to my supporters and followers. A special shout out to my sponsors! They are Fun and Fabulous companies that you should check out and support. I am grateful to everyone.
I love a good bargain. To me, there is nothing like the thrill of finding something you have been desiring from afar at a discount. This is especially fun when you purchase an item that is this season’s merchandise at half the cost. Take a peek into my closet and I will show you some of my most recent bargains.
Look at these peepers! Prada white frames with gold and light brown gradient lens. These are selling retail for $310.00 and I bought them for $103.99 (with an extra 20 per cent off coupon) at my local Loehmann’s store. So holler!!! This little gem is perfect for spring and summertime. Put away your black darth vader shades and wear these to lighten up in every sense of the word. Plus, you can channel your inner 1960’s diva and strut your stuff this summer when you prance about town. I have owned these for a week and I have received about ten compliments on my Fun and Fabulous Find.
Now, during my same shopping excursion, I also happened upon this wardrobe essential:
Don’t stop believing..hold onto that feeling…Yes, that is right. I scored this Vintage Wash Boxy Dolman Journey T-shirt in black by Chaser for $21.59 with my 20 percent off coupon. This currently is selling online at designer stores for $62.00!
Now, don’t be sad if you don’t have a Loehmann’s store in your city. You can shop online and be a part of the fun at www.loehmanns.com Check out these cute shorts I found on their website:
Don’t these look comfy and easy to wear? Plus the price is just right at $29.99! Denim running shorts by Blank Jeans. I can picture myself wearing them with my rockin’ t-shirt and sunglasses.
So, go grab your wallet and get a shopping! Let me know if you find something you want to share. I am always waiting to hear from you!
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy.
What cha knowing?
I’ve come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain’t cha got no rhymes for me?
Feelin’ groovy.Got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I’m dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.
An idea for designing a room can come from many unexpected sources. Here is a fun example of how you can let your imagination flow forward and inspire you: Below is a photo of my cat “Lucky” lounging in the greenery on a beautiful Spring afternoon.
The model below reminds me of Lucky lounging in the sun and I think it is hilarious (this has nothing to do with design and decor, but we all need to laugh!):
Anyway, getting back on track…All of this makes me want to decorate a room retro Palm Beach crazy and do something like this:
Now take a peek at this vintage dining set I found for a client’s breakfast room. It was ironically located at the John Salibello showroom in West Palm Beach. It now adds a fun and fabulous retro chicness to their newly constructed house.
I am in the process of choosing paint colors for their breakfast room and a new ceiling fixture. I am thinking something like this will look fab with the above table and chairs:
This six light bamboo tower chandelier comes in a variety of colors. Check it out at www.shadesoflight.com
And this color is a perfect shade of green. Hence the name:
Breakfast Room Green Number 81 by Farrow and Ball
An easy, breezy green that is a fabulous find! www.farrow-ball.com
Sometimes it is the “everyday moments” that kick off an idea which shape your world…Take the time to notice where today may lead you.
My inspiration for this post is the original Studio 54 nightclub which was hot and happening from 1977-1981. The club was operated by the publicly visible Steve Rubell and his invisible creative partner, Ian Schrager. What does this have to do with a Fun and Fabulous Finds posting? Stay with me…
Rubell became widely known for his door policy, mixing ordinary people with glamorous celebrities and he would “cast a play” when selecting the perfect mix of people to enter the club each night.
So, rockin’ readers… Steve Rubell’s philosophy is exactly what you need to do with your style choices! Select the perfect “mix” of pieces to reflect YOUR fashion and decor statement.
The following little gemstones of Fun and Fabulous Finds are currently inspiring my world. Let’s see if they shimmy and shake yours as well.
Here is what I want to wear this Spring to channel the Studio 54 days:
Here is what I want to sit in while reflecting on the styles of the late 1970’s and early 80’s while wearing the above shorts:
And I would carry this purse (circa 1980’s) with me in above chair while wearing sassy shorts:
And to finish off the look let’s kick it old school:
So, who rocks your house? The answer to this question should be YOU! Let’s keep the countdown to 4/25 rolling….Until next time!
Well, this is a lot of pressure! I mean tick tock tick tock…I need to stop watching the clock…
So, let’s celebrate the count down to 4/25 by featuring some daily Fun and Fabulous Finds that inspire your creativity and make your heart sing. (In the words of David Cassidy…C’mon Get Happy!)
This is one of my favorite things:
Which makes me love this room:
Which inspires me to try this:
Which makes me want to wear this:
Which makes me want to be here:
Fly away with me and think about what inspires you…c’mon get happy! I would love to hear your thoughts.
I have thought a lot about how ones fashion sense tends to translate to the decor in their home. I started to analyze this after having a conversation with my good friend, Kari, on her wardrobe choices for an upcoming vacation. After we decided on her hip and happening outfit, we began talking about a chair she has always dreamed of purchasing for her house. I hung up the phone and it hit me that Kari’s fabulous fashion sense has the same vibe as her home’s rockin’ decor. (Stay tuned, because her home will be featured in an upcoming post)! My point for you to ponder today: If what you choose to wear is an outside reflection of how others view you, then shouldn’t the decor in your home also be a bit of a window to your soul?
I love the carefree elements of fashion from the 60’s and early 70’s. I am naturally drawn to that funky vibe in my clothes and I tend to incorporate some of that style into my home.
I bet many of you can appreciate this fun and fabulous find, but wouldn’t wear them! (If you would then I would love to hear from you, because we are “soul sisters”). Here is how I would traipse around the city in the above beauties: I would wear them with shorts on a crispy fall afternoon while running errands, I would put them on after yoga when grabbing coffee, or I would pair them with a funky skirt and white t-shirt while having dinner and a cocktail with friends. Anyone who knows me would agree that these furry finds fit my personality to a T and I would wear them all the time!
But, as you noticed in my last post I have been dying for this piece of furniture in my family room:
So…you get where I am going with this….my fashion sense and my decor choices tend to go hand in hand!
Here is the dress my friend Kari purchased for her trip (She is an Aries):
Now here is the piece of furniture Kari wants to buy for her house:
Debra is another friend who is a good example of my theory. Below is a clothing line she likes to wear. (She is a Libra):
I would love to hear if you agree that fashion and decor follow one another. Take a chance…Let the world see who you really are with your sense of style and home furnishings! Thanks to all my friends and readers for the constant inspiration.
Listen up readers! I am going to let you know one of the biggest mistakes most people make when they are decorating their home. (Drum roll sound inserted here….) People tend to play it safe. But, decorating your space is similar to life. Right? Part of the wonder of living life fully is you don’t know what to expect tomorrow. I like my client’s homes to have the vibe of the unexpected. The joy of not quite knowing what the visitor will “see” when they round the corner. Decorating is fun! Part of the journey in designing is that there should be a little surprise that makes you stop and look. And reflect. And hopefully smile. Check out these fun and fabulous finds. They may not be your cup of tea, but maybe you can imagine how they could add a bit of whimsy to your room? April 25th is my day, but today is your day and you only live once. So, let loose and have a little fun!
Share with me how you find your fun when decorating your space. I would love to hear from you!
