I love LA (Malibu and Santa Monica)Posted: August 19, 2012
Here are some more of my Fun and Fabulous Finds that I love while visiting Los Angeles. Today, I want to share my tiny tidbits of bliss in Santa Monica and Malibu.
I think Sunday mornings in Malibu are marvelous. They are especially fun if you beat the weekend crowd and arrive at the beach early. Before you hit the sand and surf, I suggest you stop for brunch at Moonshadows for panoramic Pacific Ocean views while chowing on really great tasting food.
Soak up your serene Sunday vibe, and then head on over to the Malibu Country Mart located a couple of minutes down the road off of Pacific Coast Highway. This is a large outdoor “boutique mall” which features over 65 specialty stores, restaurants and galleries. While at the mart, I always have to stop at Kitson Malibu for fun and trendy women’s wear (this is my favorite store out of all the Kitson locations).
Once you buy a cute sweatshirt at Kitson, I suggest you walk across the street to Salvation for customized surf and athletic wear for all ages.
If you have young kids, the best part of the Malibu Country Mart is the playground. Take your mini-me here and your kid will probably be playing with some other kids who have very famous parents. It is an adorable, safe play area and a fun way to spend the day with your family.
Now that you have spent your Sunday in Malibu, plan on rocking your next weekend in Santa Monica. My top vote for brunch is at the Penthouse on the roof top of the Huntley Hotel. The views are spectacular, and I ate the best pancakes of my life here. If you want to fall in love at first bite, then order the cornmeal pancakes with fresh blueberries. Let me know when you go there for brunch and I just might join you. That is how much I love these flapjacks.
Here is one of the views at the Penthouse Restaurant. I don’t think this photo even begins to represent the stunning views from every seat in the house. Now while at the Huntley, say hello to my new best friend Steve, who is a fun and fabulous concierge.
He recommended a wonderful place for breakfast (I know I ate a lot while there) called Cafe Monsieur Marcel on the Third Street Promenade. Sit outside and watch everyone walk by while you enjoy your fare. Fyi, they must make all their pastries on site, because while there I ate the fluffiest english muffin in the world. This amazing carb was what my friends and I talked about during most of our meal. This means we are either really boring people or the english muffin was a new wonder of the world. Trust me, that we are not boring, so you get my drift about this piece of bread…let’s continue.
After you have read the paper and watched the crowd, walk to 5th Street and Broadway and spend a couple of hours at Fred Segal. I love this store as it is so L.A.
Once you have shopped til you drop, finish off your day at Ivy By The Shore Restaurant on Ocean Avenue. It is still fun and I love the decor.
Chat with you again soon…I have more posts to come from sunny California. In the mean time, surf’s up and hang ten! xoxo
